Gibson SG 61 Reissue - Play original songs along the lines of Foo Fighters and Them Crooked Vultures and play covers of bands like Van Halen, Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures - all the good stuff. Haven't gigged with it yet, but this is at practice volume with the rest of the band.
Reverb - 5 Master - 2/3 Presence - 4 Bass - 4 Middle - 5 Treble - 7 Detal - 5 Body - 7 High Dynamic Range Mid boost - switch off for the classic stuff sometimes, but I love a good mid boost. Yesterday on the bridge pickup I turned the tone down to 1 with guitar volume at 10 using the above settings, and our bass player nearly fell over because of the sound. It was like a slight fuzz/tremelo/synth sound that begged for vibrato. Great for some dirty blues jams. Sounded very 60's, so smooth. Wish Clapton was in my house for a demo...I didn't realise my guitar could actually sound the way it did. Love it! _________________ Gibson SG 61' Reissue Marshall VM 2466 w/ 425a Cab Digitech Jimi Hendrix Pedal Marshall MG50DFX |

I'm still too green with the VM to decide on a favorite distortion tone. But I have settled on a sound that I really like with my Telecaster for a classic clean tone:
Rev=6, MV=9-10, Pres=8, Bass=5-6, Mid=8, Treb=4-5, DR=low, MB=off, Det=4, Bod=8 _________________ While shopping for my new VM... Salesman: "You don't want THAT amp, nobody wants that amp. It only has one channel." Me: "I only need one channel if it kicks ***!" |

Long time lurker, finally got a VM 2266C. Pretty much a beginer guitarist still, but I love good tone and wanted good gear. I play a 58 historic reissue Les Paul, and here are my current settings. Sounds great at low volume, wifes watching TV in the family room, and the glory level goes up as the MV is cranked for afternoon no one home jams. Once the MV hits 4 and up it's pure awesome. Guitar volume for grindy rythym at around 4, to searing lead tone at 10.
Body-6 Detail-8 Mid Boost- off HDR Treble-7 Middle-5 Bass-3 Presence-6 MV-0 to 10 Reverb-1-2 depending on volume Enjoy John |

I've had my vintage modern for about a year now and still every month I changed the settings to find where "MY" tone was
Last week a dialed in something that sounds PRECISELY like the tone I've been hearing in my head (maybe even better) Body: 3.5 Detail: 6 High Dyna Range Midboost Off Treble: 5 Mid: 7 Bass: 5 Presence: 7.6 Reverb off Master Volume was at 5 when i was tweaking but probably the higher the better but i'm going to find out next friday It sounds so raw and sweet with my Gibson Les Paul Deluxe 80' Oh btw I have one Celestion Vintage 30 in the 2266c The other one is a stock speaker (I'm too lazy to buy a second V30 xD) _________________ In the end, all you can rely on is your good old guitar |

So I was just playing around with the VM for a couple hours and there are so many combos of settings that I love. Too bad you can't save your faves to the amp's memory or something. But I think I found my all around, go-to favorite setting....all knobs on 5 (except reverb (0) and MV to taste), HDR and Mid Boost in. Basically the factory suggestions is my fave! Is this normal? Anyone else play it like this? I didn't read every post so apologize if it's been mentioned before. Cheers!!!!

There is no such thing as normal, only what sounds right for you (no matter what position the controls end up at!).

reverb - 3 (sometimes)
precence - 8 bass - 7 middle - 4 treble - 5 detail - 5.5 body - 3.5 Master - 7+ Mid boost out That gets a pretty good GnRish tone Roll back on the volume for a nice Zeppelin/ACDCish tone Stomp on the eq for some added mids and gain Hit the Detox for clean (still not quite perfect yet) I use Rebell yell pick ups which are fairly hot so if you use lower output pups then you may want to add a little more gain _________________ Amp: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266 x 2 Cab/speaker: Marshall 425a & Marshall 1960bX Guitars: Gibson Les Paul Supreme Gibson Les Paul Standard (BKP Rebel Yell's) Fender USA 62 Reissue Stratacaster Effects: Dunlop 535Q Crybaby MXR 10 band H.B.E Detox MXR ZW Overdrive ISP Decimator TU3 |

Fun thread. :)
Wow, I'm amazed at how many players set Body/Detail in HDR way higher than I do. Here's what I've been finding works best for me with my 2466, at this point. Guitar is a '95 Les Paul Studio with Seth Lover pickups and orange drop caps. Cab is a 1960bx. Reverb - off or 3 (mainly for slow blues) Master - 6-7 Presence - 3 Bass - 4 (sometimes 3) Mid - 6 Treble - 5 High Dynamic Range Mid boost off Detail - 3.5 Body - 3 _________________ '95 LP Studio w/Seth Lovers>cord>Vintage Modern 2466>1960BX |

I'm having trouble finding a tone on my 2266 head that I really love.
Anyone have a good metal tone? I've tried quite a few tones in this thread so far and they all seem far too trebly. _________________ Amp: Marshall Vintage Modern 2266 Cab/speaker: Mesa/Boogie 2x12 cabinet with Celestion Vintage 30s Guitars: Gibson SG Standard Gibson Flying V Effects: Dunlop Zakk Wylde Wah MXR Phase 90 Z.Vex Fuzz Factory Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi Boss DD-6 |
