Post LDR vs HDR volume
Ok so i know that the vm doesn't operate with the same wattage on LDR as it does on HDR but I was wondering what the volume difference is. My amp on ldr doesn't seem to get loud at all. I have it dimed in and it seems barely loud enough for a band environment. If i switch to HDR and set the volume around 4 o clock or above it is incredibly loud. All the power tubes seem to be operating normally. I was just wondering if this was normal or if something could possibly be causing a volume drop in the LDR.

I think it really depends on where you have the preamp volumes set as well. I like to use the 2266 in LDR-with the Detail almost dimed and the Body around 9 or 10 o'clock. With my Strat on the Bridge HotRail, I get a tone VERY close to "Rocky Mountain Way" intro. When I switch to HDR, I back the Detail down to about 10 o'clock, and the body down one notch. I don't notice any considerable volume difference using this method. The HDR is just "hotter", more sustain, etc.

If you are trying to use the LDR for rhythms, and HDR for leads using the footswitch-it will not work. If the preamp settings are left the same, the HDR will seem to be much louder than LDR.  This has been my experience, anyway. Hope this helps.

Ok I totally agree. The preamp volumes make a huge difference. Sorry, this is the first day I've had a chance to really play through my amp for an extended period of time. I've been waiting forever for my cab to come in. I have a hotrail in the bridge as well, along with texas specials in the neck and middle. Thanks for the input!  :cowbell

The key with the Vintage Modern is to set your absolute max gain first using the pre amp volume knobs detail and body, setting the amp for cleans right away will result in low volume across the board. Setting it for max gain will keep the pre amp working loud and you go to your cleans by rolling back on your guitar volume pots.

Also adjusting the Presence,Treble and Middle will also facilitate a higher volume tone. For me the difference between an ear ache and comfortable jam volume is a mere switch from the treble from 4 to 5.5. Just the treble being set to 5.5 from 4 is enough to induce that feeling of loud volume abuse upon your ears.

I guess some of it depends on the current condition and tone of your tubes... my groove tube KT66s I run my eq at 7 across the board except for Presence and Body which I keep at 8.5 and 3 respectivly. Before I'd run 6 on the middle and 4.5 on the treble with the Marshall KT66s. The Groove tubes aren't as brash on the highs as the Marshalls are, so I compensate by setting the treble and mids higher.

On low dynamic range I can get papers and misc loose stuff to fly off my computer desk with my 2466 set to about 5-6 on the master volume. Its on par with a good loud amp and I never thought once to question its power.
